Osceola Lodge #515 Free and Accepted Masons will have an Osceola Mills Spirit Days Spaghetti Dinner Saturday, September 11th from 4 to 6pm at the lodge, above the post office. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children under 12. They’ll also have an Open House from 12:30 to 4 for anyone interested in learning more about their organization.

Simpson-Temple United Parish invites the community to its annual Patriotic Musical Tribute, “Free and Brave” Saturday, September 11th

Hojeth Memorial Library will be open for research Saturday, September 11th from 10 to 3, and The Blair County Genealogical Society will host a book signing by local author David W. The Pennsylvania Military Museum in Boalsburg will host re-enactors
and active-duty PA National Guardsmen in encampment demonstrating a 250 year time-line of the United State military Saturday and Sunday September 11th and 12th from 10 to 4 each day. A uniform fashion show is scheduled each day and 1.   Most activities take place at the 28th Infantry Division Shrine. The museum is on Business Route 322,

The Blair County Historical Society is seeking nominations for their 9th Annual Preservation Awards, given to individuals and organizations that have achieved excellence in promoting and preserving history and heritage of Blair County. Entry forms are available at Baker Mansion Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 to 4, and at area libraries. Winners will be honored the Society’s Annual Dinner November 14th. Deadline is 4pm Friday, October 1st. For more information call 942-3916 or log onto www.blairhistory.org

The Blair County Genealogical Society’s next meeting will be 7pm Thursday, September 16th . The speakers will be Cindy Rajala and Elise Charlesworth on how top read old script and documents . The Blair Society is also offering a Genealogy Course for beginners to the experienced researcher on three Tuesday, September 14th, 21st and 28, each 7pm. Classes cover topics from obituaries, church records, cemeteries, using birth and death registers, military , land records and more. The course if free. The RW & BT Volunteer Fire Company will have a Motorcycle Run Saturday, September 18th leaving from the RW & BT Picnic Grounds in Broad Top. Registration is from 9 to 11am, bikes leave for a 100 mile ride through Bedford, Blair and Huntingdon Counties at 11:30, with return scheduled for 5. Food and a band afterward. Proceeds benefit the fire company. For information call 635-2159.

The Altoona Area High School Alumni Association is accepting reservations for their annual holiday season bus trip to New York City. This year’s trip is Saturday, December 4th , leaving from the Junior High School parking lot a on 7th Avenue at 4am, with a breakfast stop in Milton. The bus departs NYC at 8pm, scheduled to be back in Altoona 2 the following morning. The trip is for Altoona High graduates, friends and relatives. Cost is $50 per person, with reservations due by November 1st. For information, call the Alumni Office at 946-8424.
